Yesterday I shared about the Sew Fab Pattern Sale. Today it’s all about the Magnolia Blossom Dress that I contributed to the bundle.
The Magnolia Blossom Dress is inspired by — you guessed it, a magnolia flower! We have a huge, gorgeous, mature magnolia tree in our backyard. Every spring (any day now!) it blooms into a riotous eruption of white and pink flowers with petals that look very similar to the flounce(s) on the dress.
The basic dress is very simple. A sleeveless a-line dress. It’s the details that make it special. The flounce shows up again on the back and the dress closes with an invisible zipper. The bodice has a facing so there’s no fussing with bias or other finishings.
It’s for children sized newborn through 12 years. Arden measures a size 8 chest and 10 height, so this is a lengthened size 8. There are instructions for blending sizes like this in the pattern instructions.
Pockets are a must, of course. Simple inseam pockets perfect for stashing small treats or treasures. The hem is softly high-low and features a wide hem facing. This makes hemming a breeze, and also lends a nice weight to the dress.
The fabrics are both from Raspberry Creek Fabrics and they’re so lovely! The dress (and facings) are mauve Rayon challis and the flounce is mesh dots in mauve to match. I really love the mesh for the flounce because I can leave the edges raw. The challis is just so soft and dreamy and floats and sways when Arden moves.
I also took photos of Hadley in her dress, but this one isn’t the final version of the dress. I found the front flounce to be too full in the center for my taste so that’s reduced in the pattern for sale.
I should also have lengthened this one for Hadley; the two girls are only about half an inch apart in height. Arden seems taller – I think because her height is more in her legs.
Hadley’s dress is from a lawn I picked up at my local quilt shop – now sadly closed. The mesh on this is from my stash, a red tag find at Joann’s years ago.
Don’t miss out on the Sew Fab Sale!! It’s only open through April 15. Also don’t forget to enter the giveaway in my last post!
