Fulton Sweater Blazer :: Raspberry Creek Fabrics Style

You all know the Fulton Sweater Blazer as the collar shot that enchanted Instagram.  As part of the Raspberry Creek Fabrics promo team I knew pairing Alina’s latest pattern with their gorgeous fabrics was a perfect match.

Here’s my collar pic – this definitely piqued everyone’s interest on Instagram!

And here’s my Fulton Sweater Blazer modeled.  That collar, while not easy, was a very satisfying sew.  Alina’s instructions make it easy to accomplish.  If you’ve ever sewn a v-neck you’ll find the method very similar.

I sewed a straight size 18 based on my 44″ full bust measurement, playing it fast and loose without making a muslin.  The only change I might make in the future is a little swayback adjustment.  But then again, it’s a relaxed blazer and I don’t think it needs to be super tailored.

There are two sleeve and blazer lengths from which to choose – I chose the long sleeve and knee-length versions – View B on the pattern.  I think another in hip length will be forthcoming!

Once the collar is out of the way, the rest of the sew is very straightforward.

Both sleeve lengths include a wide facing so you can turn back the cuff.  I considered using a contrast for the facing, but decided to keep it simple with self fabric for the facing.

My fabric is a great Ponte de Roma from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.  This sketchy geometric design is perfect; straight enough to make keeping it on grain easy, but not so nitpicky like stripe/plaid matching across seams.  This is from their club line, so you won’t find this fabric from other suppliers.

This is lovely! And with your choice of fabric, it looks “different” from the run-of-the-mill solid coloured cardigans.

I love your Fulton. I’m planning to make this for Autumn. I hope the weather will get the message as I’m completely over Summer. Anyway, I was just wondering if you would make any pattern changes now that you’ve made it and worn it awhile? I’m the same bust size and was planning on doing an FBA. I just haven’t seen any Fultons that have had either a FBA or have a dart. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I don’t plan to make any changes for next time, other than trying the shorter length and a different fabric. I’d love to find some boiled wool.
