Jalie started a tradition last year with Galaxie 1, a collection of bags and pouches perfect for gifting. This year, Galaxie 2 is also about gifting, but with kitchen accessories and wearable items.
I made three of the five patterns included in the Galaxie 2 collection: the Phoenix Apron, Venus Headband, and Pandora Bowl Covers. The Phoenix Apron comes in six sizes covering child to adult. This is the size 7 – 12 for my older daughter Arden who is a tall nine year old.
It features a great pocket worked into the join of the top and bottom pieces of the apron. Plenty large enough to hold some utensils and a towel.
The straps are tied through either a grommet or a buttonhole. I still have a large stash of grommets from my nautical flag banner days so I jumped on the chance to use a few on this project.
Two more grommets on the back and a cute little bow to secure. You can also wrap the ties to the front to tie if you prefer.
I made three sizes of the Pandora Bowl Covers – L, M and XS. This is the medium cover and it easily fit onto our 9″ serving bowls. The elastic makes them very versatile, as this cover also worked equally well on our smaller 7″ bowl, and the L also fit fine on the 9″ bowl.
The XS covered a small container. This would be adorable as mason jar covers for gifting. These covers were incredibly quick to sew. I made all three in about an hour, including cutting and threading the elastic.
Last I made the Venus Headband. This also comes in sizes covering children through adults. This is the size 7-12. I cut out the optional bow in the same black linen used on the apron bottom, but Arden liked the headband plain. She and I share a characteristic where this style of headband doesn’t usually stay on our heads — I think the back of our heads slope more than typical. But this one has stayed in place fabulously. She wore it all day on Thanksgiving and the next day as well.
The other two patterns in the Galaxie 2 collection are the Orion Belt and the Cosmos Lunch Placemat. The Orion Belt would be perfect for wearing while working a craft show or garage sale. It has a zippered pouch at the top that would secure any cash or other valuables and several slip pockets as well. This would be nice to wear at the art show in which my Mom participates each year. And the Cosmos Lunch Placemat would certainly come in handy for lunch on the go, or potluck dinners with a zippered area to stash silverware. It rolls up and secures with ties for easy transport.
Galaxie 2 is offered at 50% off for the release – be sure to grab it at this fantastic discount!! Sale pricing is valid through Monday, November 26. Use code GALAXIE2018 (if you forget, a banner shows up at the top of the website to remind you).
Oh I love these. Someone just asked me to make kid aprons and I love those bowl covers!
The apron is perfect for that!
Great blog post and your daughter appears to be enjoying being your model!
