LOL Swing X :: Sly Fox Fabrics Style

I received this really cool bubble crepe from Sly Fox Fabrics in exchange for promotion. It’s called Avalon and it will be stocking on July 11.  The link above is to the new fabrics collection, so it should pop up there when it’s available. *Updated with direct link to Avalon fabric.

It’s a woven fabric, but it behaves in many ways like a knit with great texture.  I tried to capture it below, but it’s so neat and springy feeling in person.  Sewing was easier than with something like a rayon challis, but it didn’t press quite as cleanly.  I would maybe use a hem facing in the future to make that a little simpler.

Deciding what to make to show off the beautiful drape and swing of the fabric wasn’t that difficult: a LOL Swing Dress was perfect!  I did initially plan to make a ladies’ version for myself, but I’m still in prototype stage on that pattern and I didn’t have time to muslin first.  So Arden and Hadley are the winners of a new awesome floral dress!

Ah, the location for this – anyone recognize it?  We have a foreign exchange student with us for part of the summer so we were headed to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  I knew these windows in the main hall of Ellis Island created beautiful light and backdrop so I made sure to have the dress ready in time for our trip.

Hadley practically floats in this!  It still kills me that she didn’t want to continue dance lessons…

Supremely swishy and I love the pretty and delicate floral against the blue background.  She received so many compliments on her dress from other visitors to Ellis and Liberty Islands.

Preparing for more twirling!  I mean, wouldn’t you?  That evil twinkle in her eye is so her personality.

Pockets, of course.  On first glance the fabric appears to be transparent, but Hadley is wearing navy blue shorts under this and they don’t show through at all.

And to try to better show the drape and swing of this fabric, Hadley performs a little dance for you!  I love how swishy and bouncy it is.  Be sure to grab some of this at Sly Fox Fabrics right away on July 11; I’m pretty sure this won’t be around long!
