Jalie #3881 Rose

I know you’ve all been waiting to see the patterns in Jalie’s latest collection.  Fourteen new patterns!  I chose to make #3881 Rose, and doubled my fun by making one for each daughter.

Rose is a sleeveless button-down shirt with a collar.  Optional flutter sleeves were chosen by both girls, and Hadley wanted the tie.  I omitted the chest pocket since my fabrics were very busy to begin with.

On that fabric: it’s a chiffon of unknown composition.  I picked it up in the clearance section of Hobby Lobby last summer and thought it would be so light and pretty for this blouse.  As far as delicate fabrics go, it wasn’t that bad.  I did use a lightweight tricot interfacing on the collar, collar stand and placket and that worked well.

Rose is sized for girls and women from chest 21″ to full bust of 51″.  That’s 28 sizes in one pattern!  There are bust darts on the women’s sizes.  So you get a Rose, and you get a Rose, and you, and you, and …  I thought I’d make myself one, but I got busy with one of my own patterns, so that will have to wait.  I had already planned a sleeveless blouse comparison at some point and I think this would make a lovely addition!

Hadley loves her tie, or pussy bow as I know them.  The tie is completely separate, so she can decide whether she wants it or not for each wear.

Arden really dislikes anything near her neck, so no tie for her, and we left the top snap undone.

The instructions are clear and succinct, as is typical for Jalie.  If you’re ever unsure about a particular pattern, you can download a PDF of the instructions and view them before you buy.  I have to say, omitting sleeves on a button down sure notches down the difficulty.  If this was a more stable fabric it would have been a cake walk.

I did change one minor thing when making my Rose blouses: I used KAM snaps instead buttons.  I just wasn’t feeling putting that many buttonholes into the chiffon.  So I made covered KAM snaps, and you can hardly tell they’re there.

I paired the blouses with my Clipper Shorts that I made last year.  I had in mind to make capri Eleonores for them, but time is ever elusive and I really like how the simple shorts pair with the floaty blouses.

Pick up the PDF version of Rose for instant gratification, or there’s also printed patterns available.

Your girls and their blouses are gorgeous. Your fabric selection is perfect.

A question on the flutters, please – Did you use a special hemming foot on the edge, or a special technique to make that completely even hem? Wow!

Just a hem gauge and lots of patience! I worked on this in small bursts over about a week. I did use basting stitches on the curved hems to make that part easier.

OK – I can do that. You did a wonderful job! Thank you. I’m about to hem something with chiffon and voile with curved hems, and I am dreading it.

your blouses are adorable and you can tell the girls love them

another way to do the hem and not go crazy is to make the flutter double thickness , sew the 2 pieces right sides together at the hem and turn and press then treat as 1, also a good option is your fabric has a definite right and wrong side

Oh, I’m so jealous you’ve already been able to get one of the new patterns done! I looooove Jalie. There are a few I really want to order in the latest collection. I’m only resisting because I know I won’t have any time to work on them until Summer is well underway. Did you have to do any modifications like lengthening?

I’m on the promo team, so I got it while they were still wrapping up testing. I didn’t make any modifications, but Hadley could use the next size up I think. They were pretty close in measurements when I took them last, but I think she’s getting ready for a growth spurt.

I love the flutter sleeve detail, and I appreciate all the effort you went through with those hems. The results are worth it though!
