My busy friend Hayley of Mouse House Creations* just published her latest sewing pattern, the Sydney Romper and Pinafore*.
It’s for sizes 3m through 12 years, and even works for boys in the sunsuit version that goes up to a 2T. Â There are three options: a pinafore with a skirt, and two rompers – one with shorts, and the sunsuit with bloomers. Â I would have happily made Hadley the sunsuit if it went up to her size, but I think she might have had a different opinion! Â On both rompers, there’s an optional snap placket for easy diaper changes through 2T.
I wasn’t a tester for the pattern; I was working with Hayley on the back end of pattern development.  I made this version to try to get some photos of the final version of the pattern, but Hadley wasn’t the most cooperative model and these were the best of what I took.  I should have sized up the shorts to accommodate Miss Hadley’s generous behind, but I half intended this to be for Arden who has a much smaller rear.  Maybe I can give her a try at modeling them and do a side by side comparison?  Arden was looking a little bedraggled from being at the pool earlier in the day, so Hadley won the modeling lottery :).
I’ve used this type of mini pom trim on other outfits, but only as an accent or at the waistline. Â These little buggers are not easy to work with, so the bit of unevenness you’re seeing is not the fault of the pattern. Â The gingham is homespun that my Mom brought me recently and since the pattern is woven into the fabric I had to do a little bit of work to keep it on-grain and matched up (reasonably well) across pieces as it had a tendency to warp close to the selvage.
The pattern is set up with overlapping borders that can be used as a no-trim pattern, but I prefer to trim two edges away.  It also has layers for printing only the size you need.  And to satisfy both camps in the printing rectangles quandary, there is both a cutting chart and printable pattern pieces.
