This Kid’s Clothes Week sort of snuck up on me – were you better prepared? Â I’ve been up to my eyeballs with pattern preparations – two of my own and working on contract jobs for other brands at the same time. From that desire, a Swingin’ Satya Top was created!
When I’ve been immersed in patterns I do love when I can break free and do a little fun sewing that’s not part of any project checklist. Â This little top most certainly fit into the premise of Kids Clothes Week of sewing an hour a day for a week. Â From cutting to final press was just a bit over an hour with some meal prep and Netflix in the midst to keep the girls happy.
This is a simple hack of the bodice of my Satya Romper.  I pulled out the bodice pieces, used my French curve and a straight ruler and simply extended the sides at an angle and the hem in a nice sweeping curve.
I had a nice fat half of this Bloome Copenhagen Chevron Triangle organic cotton knit from Emrose Fabrics. Â Â This is currently available as retail in the shop.
You’ll hopefully be seeing a little stream of projects featuring fabrics stocked by Emrose Fabrics since I signed on as a brand representative. Â That means Jennifer sends a little fabric love once a month or so, maybe even strikeoffs. Â I was already a customer since she stocks a great selection of Euro and custom knits, so I was more than happy to jump over to becoming a brand rep. Â Join the Emrose Fabrics Chat group on Facebook to see what’s being stocked and ordered.
I was trying to decide what to make with the fabric for which I had no coordinating rib or cotton Lycra to make bands for necklines or cuffs. Â Then I realized I had this lingerie elastic in my stash from years ago that matched really well. Â So a Swingin’ Satya it would become! Â The elastic is a little narrower than the 5/8″ wide FOE or decorative elastic called for in the Satya Romper, but I just sewed the openings a little smaller.
I carried the elastic trim to the hem, which hopefully will give it a little weight and help with any curling that sometimes happens. Â I used 1/4″ Steam-a-Seam Light to help get a nice even hem and sewed the trim onto the backside as I hemmed with a triple stretch stitch. Â My twin needle and I haven’t been getting along well lately and I was going for hassle free sewing today.
I used the facings from the pattern as is with some scrap white knit I had on hand.
Photo shoots at the playground are always a hit with the promise of playtime after quick photos. Â This rolling slide is a lot of fun, even for side-by-side sliding!
