My intention with the Tiny Sewists series was to keep all the projects gender neutral so it would remain inclusive.
Recently, Arden and I made a video of her sewing a Pip Skirt for her turn as the Star of the Week at her elementary school. Â She had the choice of doing a live demonstration or making a video, and I convinced her to do the video so she could complete her project. Â Now I’m sharing it here so you can see her progress. We haven’t had many sessions since we moved; only a couple of headbands as gifts for friends so she’s a little rusty.

The Pip Skirt is a free PDF tutorial available at https://www.ajennuinelife.com/product/pip-skirt-tutorial-free. Â Arden sewed the panels and hemmed it after I had pressed it. Â I did all the cutting, prepared the pocket panels, and added the waistband. Â So, it’s a good project for an older girl or a nice joint project for a tiny sewist and an adult helper.
The fabrics used are Michael Miller’s Pugs & Kisses. Â Arden’s classmates (and even her Principal) got a kick out of the Poo-Poo Polka Dots print we used on the waist band. Â Nothing like a little potty humor for a bunch of six and seven year olds!
I’ll get pictures of Arden modeling her new skirt and add them to this post when I get a chance
well done Arden! Good for you sewing with your girl, Jennifer.
Wow! Sewing her own skirt– horray to Arden! What an accomplishment for a young girl– and to be so PROUD! Post photos of Arden modeling her creation!
so cute! my 9 year old is jealous, she is begging me for lessons! I made the Pip Skirt in a denim knit fabric and my girls wear it all the time! For sure a favorite that will be sewn up again for the summer!
This is fab! Thank you for sharing your instructions and the videos too. my daughter is working on this next!
