I have been so excited to write this post about Hayley from Welcome to the Mouse House‘s new Color Me fabric line!
As soon as we received the fabrics, Arden set straight to work coloring the princesses, ballerinas, hearts, unicorns, cats and castles! Â Basically every single thing that Arden or any other little girl would love. Â We’ve been using Tulip brand fabric markers and they’re very rich and vibrant.
Once Arden had most of the fabric panel colored, I sewed up this version of my Verona Dress pattern. Â I thought the fold-back collar and underskirt would be a great contrast to the black and white base fabric of the Color Me fabrics. Â It worked out just right for the overskirt to be tall enough to span the top of the castle’s flags and the ballerina’s toes! Â The lining fabric is also Michael Miller’s Cotton Couture solids.
Now when you have a six year old girl wearing a dress made from fabric with princesses all over it, what better place for photos than a real live castle?  When we decided to move to New Jersey, I tried to learn about our new area and discovered this local landmark called Kip’s Castle.  The castle was built in the 1900’s by a - get this – wealthy textile inventor named Frederick Ellsworth Kip.
Arden has dubbed the fabric “Princess Land” where all the princesses live. Â There’s Pink Princess and Color Princess – I’ll bet you don’t have any trouble determining which is which! Â She is so excited about getting to color her own fabric, and she did the happiest little dance when I showed her the completed dress!
There are four fabrics in the Color Me line.  This is the border print from A Royal Life and there’s also a Princess Paisley which is an allover print.  Then there’s Space Adventures and To the Moon and Back which are a space-themed allover and border print, respectively.  I know it’s been super popular and can be difficult to find in stock, but keep trying – it’s totally worth it!
There are plenty of other stops on the Color Me fabric tour! Â Check out the rest of these amazing bloggers!
lovely – she did a beautiful job coloring! I love the pink sleeves and underskirt – fitting for a Princess!
I’m definitely going to have to keep an eye out for the Welcome to the Mouse House line. I love the concept of the kids being able to colour in the fabric! What a way to make them feel part of the creation of the garments, as well as inspiring the next generation of textile designers?!
Thank you SO much for joining me Jen! This is just a perfect dress…. and your photos are amazing!
What a fantastic use of fabric! Your Verona is lovely. It’s such a great pattern – I’ve made it twice and as my granddaughter grows, there will be more!
Such a wonderful dress! Love it. She sure looks like a princess!
What a gorgeous Princess Land dress 😉
