A while back, a bunch of PDF designers were discussing how there’s a perception that we’re not on friendly terms – competing against each other, or copying designs. Â NOT TRUE! Â The community of designers is very supportive and encouraging. Â We have our own Facebook group where we bounce ideas off each other, get advice, and let each other know about any issues affecting our industry.
So we brainstormed this idea of swapping patterns in a sort of round-robin style.  I was given Sofilantjes Patterns to sew.  I pulled up Anne’s pattern site and Arden chose the Iridis Dress because it was “twirly”!
She also selected this girlfriends print by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman.  I’ve only had this fabric for a little while, but I didn’t have any specific project in mind for it, so I agreed.
Because of the busy print of the adorable girls on the fabric, I opted to make the skirts solid instead of the pieced curves called for in the pattern. Â I’m all about those curves, but I would have chopped too many girls’ heads off to do it!
The Iridis is a really sweet functional wrap dress. Â The neckline bias extends through an opening in one side seam, and is held in place with a loop (I used ribbon) on the other side. Â Then the lengths of bias are tied at the back.
I really like how the skirt pieces wrap so fully across so even if the top layer flips up in the breeze, the other side is covering everything that needs to be covered. Â I used the bias binding option for the hemline and I quite like the way it looks!
Arden measured for the size 6 and that’s the size I made. Â The fit is perfect. Â Arden has very standard measurements for chest and waist and she’s only very slightly taller than average. Â We brought along this little wand Arden made from a Kiwi Crate a while back because it looked exactly like the wands the girls in the fabric are holding.
