LouBeeClothing Week :: Tech Shandiin

You know those designs where as soon as you see it you say “I gotta have that”?  For me the Shandiin by LouBeeClothing was one of those patterns.

When I received this pattern, it told me right away that it wanted to be a running singlet.  Or rather, two running singlets for my two daughters.  What?  Your patterns don’t talk to you? Pshh!

Arden and Hadley were set to run their first road race.  For those of you who don’t know, I used to be a pretty serious runner and have completed six full marathons (that’s 26.2 miles for those not into the running scene.  And yes, it’s hard to run for that long!)

Getting them gear that was appropriate for running proved to take a little bit of work.  I found Saucony running shoes for them at Stride Rite.  I’m a Saucony girl myself and if they were going to give running a good try, I wanted to put good shoes on their feet.  That left their clothes, or kit.  I wasn’t finding any technical clothing in sizes 2T and 5T, so I took a few of my old technical running shirts and refashioned them into tech Shandiins for the girls!

The pink shirt had a hi-low hem and I preserved that because it was cute and saved me hemming.  I just lined up the bottom side seams of the pattern with the bottom edges of the shirt.  The Shandiin is designed for woven fabrics, but I had no issue with this technical knit.  I used premade narrow double fold bias tape for the armholes/straps.

Originally only Arden was going to run in the half-mile race.  However, on our first training run we had Hadley in the jogging stroller and she asked to get out and run.  SHE DID AMAZING!!  Wearing her little water shoes she kept up with Arden and beyond – Arden took her spot in the stroller and Hadley kept on going.  So back we went to Stride Rite to get Hadley a teeny pair of Saucony runners.

I used a different tech shirt for Hadley’s tech Shandiin, and this one had a straight hem, so I just went with it.  I used the same pink fabric as Arden’s for the yoke piece and more narrow double fold bias tape.  I also made Hadley’s shorts – they’re the Kid Shorts by Dana at Made.  I whipped these up during Dana’s class at SNAP! Conference this spring.  I still haven’t finished sharing everything from SNAP! – it was so cool to meet Dana!

My friend Tasha at Glitter+Wit started a really fun event – LouBeeClothing Week, and Sarah of LouBee jumped on with a 25% discount with the code GLITTER25 in her shop through the end of the week.  So be sure to go browse around – I love, love all of Sarah’s designs, and I’m sure you will as well!

      LOL Tasha! I was a little crazy! No marathons in my immediate future – 3 miles is a lot for me right now.

    Love these!! Awesome colours. So, how did the little runners go in their race?

      They did great! Arden ran with Dave and I ran with Hadley. Tchnically, Hadley was a renegade as the lower age limit was 5 years old, but she did great and only walked for a few moments!
