FOXGLOVE :: Pattern Test for Selvage Designs

A little while back I had the pleasure to test another pattern for my friend Lauren from Selvage Designs- the FOXGLOVE women’s tank pattern!

I meant to share this just as soon as the pattern was available – first on IndieSew and now on the Selvage Designs shop page *affiliate link.  But… life gets a little busy when you’re working on your own pattern – ya’ know?

FOGLOVE 4

You guys!  This pattern is awesome!  It can be made with knit or woven fabric, it has a cool hi-low hemline, and there are lots of little ways to make it your own – center seams, color blocking, and finishes.

Before I go any further, I want to address the placement of the print.  When I started laying out the pattern to cut, I knew I wanted to avoid placing the “eyes” of the peacock feathers in an unfortunate manner.  But when I realized I was going to have to get creative to get all the pieces cut from the fabric I had, I kinda forgot about that part.  Soooo….  yup, right on the ta-tas went the eyes of the feathers.  It’s okay, you can look – it’s pretty funny, right?  But I love the tank so much I’m wearing it every time it’s clean anyway.  It’s that good.

FOXGLOVE 2

I went the color blocking route – oh, was that a design choice and not because I didn’t really have enough of this cool jersey feather knit from Girl Charlee?  Either way, it worked out so well to use a little bit of open knit I had left over from the girls’ Bimaa tops I made earlier this year.

FOXGLOVE 1

Lauren includes instructions for lengthening one or both of the hemlines in the pattern.  I sewed this test without making any adjustments and it’s a teeny bit short in the front, which is why I left it unhemmed.  I love the length in the back.  Those of you with “girls” above a b-cup or are taller than average might also find that lengthening the front is right for you.  Those suckers take up a lot of fabric!  Sorry about all the boob talk on this post.

I’d also like to make a little plug here, that this would make the PERFECT companion pattern for a little mom-and-daughter action to go with my upcoming LOL Swing Top pattern.  How cute would that be?  Perhaps in different fabrics though, ‘cuz that could start to get weird…

omg, i didn’t even notice the placement of the “eyes” of the peacock feathers until you mentioned it….and now i can’t look away 😉 i just made my muslin and i agree with you…the girls take up alot of room, so i am going to lengthen the front some, but the back looks great. thanks for your review!!!
