The response to my initial Sew This Look post was better than I had hoped! I’ve received several submissions for looks you’d like me to pick apart, so watch for those in the coming weeks!
Before I dive into the reader submissions, I wanted to show that even though I have two daughters to sew for, I do pay attention to fashion and patterns for boys. This look is from Andy and Evan and is priced much more reasonably than the Gucci look I shared last week. The twill blazer retails for $68, the colorblock cardigan sweater is $46, and the corduroy pants are $46. Even at reasonable rates, that still adds up!
Using patterns and tutorials, you can sew the Andy and Evan look for less and you can customize your colors and fabrics to suit your taste.
The Basic Blazer from Blank Slate Patterns is perfect for recreating the target blazer. Add the contrast stitching and you’re good to go!
There are plenty of cardigan patterns available, but I thought the V-neck Sweater Cardigan from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop suited the look the best. Change the color of one sleeve to match the color blocking of the Andy and Evan sweater.
You can’t see the shirt very well in the original, but it looks like a basic button-down. I’ve heard nothing but great reviews of the Button-up Shirt from Scientific Seamstress. Bonus points for making the Bosco Bowtie using the free pattern and tutorial from Sis Boom offered by Jennifer Paganelli who is a partner in the Sis Boom/Scientific Seamstress collaboration.
I had a hard time deciding which pants pattern to include, but I’ve always loved the proportion and fit of Shwin Designs’ Number 9 Trousers. The faux fly gives the look of the corduroys in the original look, but keeps the sewing simpler.
Oh, and one more thing – we have these children’s headphones from Kidz Gear and love them! I’ve been known to use them myself… Then you could really recreate the original look!
Thanks for joining me on this journey. If you have fashions for your kids or yourselves you’d like me to try to dissect, send them my way: jennuinedesign@gmail.com.
I’m not sure how, but I missed the opening to this series. I love this idea and how it shows us a basic break down of designer priced clothing brands look. I need to take a good long look at my pinterest list and pull some out some of your magic to recreate some great stuff.

Bring it on! I’ve had a blast digging through patterns and tutorials to try to match the features so far!
Love the look for a boy! Just perfect and those patterns are awesome.
