We had a good time on our impromptu photo shoot – Hadley was running and laughing like a nut most of the time, and our walk around the yard turned into a walk/run around the block. Unfortunately it ended with a tumble and a scraped knee at the end. Hadley’s a tough cookie and brushed it off after a few kisses and a little snuggle for the last of the walk.
Popover Sundress Remix: Popover Romper
I wasn’t at all sure I’d have anything to share for the Week 1 sewalong for Season 7 of Project Run & Play. I’ve had a slew of Etsy orders and some with shipping deadlines in addition to the work I’ve been doing on the big build for my Sawdust Extravaganza prize.
So, this was me on Instagram (follow me @jennuinelife) at 9:30 PM last night. Pattern revision. I took the Oliver + S Popover Sundress and turned it into a Popover Romper. Though technically, it’s a Pull-up-er since I didn’t do a snap inseam. I kept the bodice the same, but redrafted the sides to go straight down instead of an a-line. Then I used a romper which fits Hadley to get the correct proportions for the little shorts.
You might think I put the stripes on the horizontal as a design choice but you would be incorrect. I was using leftover fabrics from my Ruby Top pattern testing and that was the only way I could eek out my pattern pieces. Even so I had to piece the front and back bodice.
So now Hadley and I can be twinners in our seersucker and yellow outfits.
This afternoon I had it to this point and posed the question on Instagram: seersucker or yellow for the bias? Yellow won, which was my lean to begin with and saved me trying to scrounge more of the seersucker to make the straps.
I hadn’t intended to embellish the front with the little fabric rosettes, but the bodice was just a little on the wide side and the straps kept slipping off her shoulders. So I made a little pleat and used the rosettes to make it look intentional. These were part of my first competition piece almost three years ago and I’ve used them to snazzy up my outfits on occasion. So obviously I have had a thing for yellow and stripes for a while…
Gah! I love them!
Jenn, it’s super cute! Rompers are such a hit here in our house…and I love your fabric pairing!
You ‘turned and burned’ on this entry! We would have completely hung it up…. Very cute!
We knew you would do something amazing….and you did! Absolutely love the color choices!!!

I love seersucker, and in a romper?! Too cute…glad you made it in! I thought for sure I was going to be the last entry:)
It was a close call to get it posted and linked up. My hubby had an evening conference call and I had to ask him to move to get to the photos I had edited earlier. As it was I had to publish the post unfinished to get a URL to link up and then go back and finish it. The things we do…
The romper is adorable on your little one! Great idea!
Adorable! I love yellow and grey! they are a fantastic color combo. The flowers on the front are just darling. This romper is just perfect, and even matches her shoes! Great job!
