Hadley at 21 months is a study in contrasts:
She has mostly two speeds: full-tilt and crash. She is a dynamo of activity and full of vim and vigor. What exactly does vim mean? Wait, just checked and it means enthusiasm… That is, until you think she’s in for the long haul and then check back and she’s out cold.
She can be the sweetest thing toting around her dollies and shushing you while she puts them to sleep all wrapped in a blanket or stroking your face gently and the next thing you know she’s cold-cocking you in the side of the head – and she’s got some force behind those hits! She literally almost broke my nose while “snuggling” with me and then reared back and head-butted me in the nose.
Her mood can be mercurial to say the least – one minute she’s all dimples showing you all her pearly whites with a big smile or waving to everyone in the grocery store and then if someone says something she doesn’t like or someone she doesn’t know speaks to her she can shoot a look to freeze you in your tracks. She can also throw a masterful tantrum including screeching, throwing things, flopping to the ground and rolling about. It’s quite the spectacle, but it doesn’t usually last long. We try not to laugh.
Bring on your roller coaster Hadley, we’re strapped in and ready for the ride…
Love that photo at the top, my boy is a month older than Hadley. Also it’s been a while since I came across the word “mercurial” being used in a blog post (if ever!) but word a great word it is!
