Travel Tips for Tiny People

We’ve traveled regularly with Arden and Hadley, and they do pretty well.  Each trip we take brings some new gadgets or tricks to the table, so I thought I’d share a couple of gems from our most recent trip.

First was the coloring book I made for Arden.  She will sit and color for HOURS, people.  The only drawback is that she colors quickly so I have to have lots of fodder for her habit.  The tutorial for this DIY coloring book with “girlies” I drew is at Growing Up Gabel.  I tucked it into the coloring folio I made during my stint on Sew-vivor and she had everything she needed for crayon-time happiness.

The next one Dave gets all the credit.   We download television and movies onto our phones for travel entertainment and more than half of the content is kid’s shows.  Little kids do not want ear buds stuck in their ear, so Dave found these great kids headphones by Kidz Gear (not an affiliate link, though if they want to give me stuff for sending readers their way I wouldn’t argue).  We got a pair for each girl for about $25 each.  I didn’t think Hadley would go for it, but she most certainly did!  Arden is four and Hadley was almost 20 months at the time we traveled and Hadley probably used these a little more than Arden as she has recently discovered the joys of Tinkerbell – well, more precisely, Cheese the mouse on Tinkerbell.  She squeals every time he comes on screen.  The sound quality rivals any of my earphones and the color and fit is appealing to kids.  Or me.  I might have “borrowed” them to watch a movie on the computer…

The last new toy was a couple sets of these Fisher Price Minnie’s Bow-tique figurines (not an affiliate link).  I had not seen these until we were backstage at Arden’s dance recital and I was smitten (she liked them too).  Most of the parts are big enough for a younger kid like Hadley, but it’s still interesting enough for Arden to enjoy for a long time.  I picked them up at our local Meijer store for about $20 each.  We put a set into each of the girls’ backpacks along with their headphones and a book/coloring book and we were pretty much good to go.
Do you have any new or favorite travel tricks?
