My first foray into the world of sewing samples for Quilt Market was with Handcrafted by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics.  I made one of the first versions of what would eventually become my Verona Dress pattern.  So I was very pleased when I was invited to make something with Handcrafted 2.
I took the opportunity to play with a couple of variations I’ve had in mind for the Satya Romper pattern – adding a skirt for a Satya Dress, and pants for a Satya Jumpsuit. Â My intent is to create patterns for both of these which will probably end up being three different patterns: a dress, skirt as an extension and the pants. Â My reasoning is that anyone who has the romper pattern can get the skirt as an expansion, and the pants could be unisex if they’re not paired with the bodice (and not gathered at the ankle like I’ve done for these).
The dress is made from geese in magenta and the jumpsuit is speckle in teal.  Speckle is a border print with the three lines along both selvages.  I took advantage of them and cut so they’d be along the bottom of the bodice and pant legs.  This fabric really has a great feel and I’m absolutely in love with the way it bridges the gap between quilting and garment or accessory sewing.
Arden, the seasoned model, is trying to show Hadley how to put her hands in the pockets without putting her entire hand inside.
The pants have patch pockets on the back in addition to the waist seam pockets on the front. Â Can’t have too many pockets, right?
The dress has a hem facing and a subtle shirt tail hemline.  I like the weight a facing at the hem gives a skirt.
See you at quilt market! Â Or… at least my sewing!
Oh, and that this post perfectly matches the color scheme of my blog is purely accidental!
Lovely! I love them! Gosh, I wish I had a little girl. btw: I just noticed the colors on your blog, those are my favorite colors so now I’m really in love with your blog layout 😉 Anyways, great post.
