Sometimes I get invited to participate in pattern tours, and if it’s something I like and my girls or I will wear and I have time, I’ll happily join. Â Then there’s the Mini Hudson Pants, where I cold-called Kelli, the designer behind True Bias and essentially invited myself to be on the tour!
I’m so glad I did, because the Mini Hudson Pants most definitely met with the hype I’ve been hearing about True Bias. Â Crisp pattern, clear illustrations and stellar construction. Â Hadley, who often battles me to try on new items, wouldn’t let me take them off her after they were first finished! Â She immediately termed them her “comfy pants” and is wearing them every day they are clean.
Hadley’s Mini Hudson Pants are made from a yummy Ponte De Roma knit from Girl Charlee. Â I would absolutely consider making myself something out of this fabric – so soft and squishy and substantial enough that the off white is not see-through at all. Â The contrasting waistband, cuffs, and pocket details are black ribbing from Jo-Ann Fabrics.
We bundled up and headed to Verona Park to feed the geese and snap some pics. Â Hadley is sporting the leather jacket I made for Arden last year using reclaimed leather from our sofa. Â It fits the vibe of these urban pants quite well, I think!
Arden was still recovering from the flu, so she wasn’t as perky for photos as Hadley. Â Her Mini Hudson Pants are cotton spandex also from Girl Charlee, but seems to be out of stock at the moment. Â These are a lighter weight than the Ponte De Roma so they drape a little differently. Â I used the same fabric for the waistband, cuffs and pocket detail. Â I also made the drawstring from the same fabric, just cutting a strip and pulling it until it rolled in on itself. Â Done and done!
Arden is wearing an adorable eared hat made by my friend Tasha of Glitter & Wit. Â You can purchase hats and other cute handmade items from her Etsy shop.
Now the serious question is – should I make an adult version for myself? Â IÂ know they’d be comfy, I just don’t know if I can pull off the style on my figure. Â I’m thinking I’ll go for it and the worst thing is I have a really soft, cozy pair of lounge pants that my hubby can appreciate!
What a little ham!
Be sure to check out the rest of the Mini Hudson Pants tour, today I’m joined by Heather of Feather’s Flights.
Then it carries on with:
Thanks Kelli for letting me crash your blog hop!
I love both versions. That triangle fabric is really fabulous.
Both pair really look cozy. Its makes sewing so much more fun when the kid loves the finished project, too! I think you should go for the adult pair!
LOVE the ponte pair! I’ve had mixed luck with ponte fabric, either holding up really great or pilling on the first wash. These look perfect, I may have to go grab some! I made two for my girls as well, and used a too-thin fabric that you can see through if your undies have a wild pattern…whoops! 😉
these are super rad. i’m staring at the way-too-many-patterns I have but i really do NEED these!
I love the fabrics you used! Seeing all the versions popping up all over the blogesphere totally makes me want to sew up a pair (or 4)! Were they an easy sew? And do you need a serger to make them? Just wondering if they are something I could tackle… I’d say I’m an advanced beginner sewist!
Jennie i didn’t see any directions for the brag blocks in the picture frame how can i get them
The triangle ones are my favourite, they are super cool.
