One minor drawback to using a nonconventional color scheme (gray, Tiffany blue, orange, green, black & white) for the nursery is that some of the items that I might have purchased ready-made aren’t available in a coordinating color. One of these items is the changing pad cover. The closest I could find was white, and I just don’t like the idea of a white changing pad cover – visions of urped up breastmilk, medicines, poop, etc… dance through my head. You get the picture.
So I got some adorable Minkee fabric from Bobbie at A Vision to Remember’s Etsy store here. I also got a lovely black and white damask patterned Minkee which will become another cover.
I didn’t do a tutorial because all I did was use a Boppy changing pad cover I had from Arden as a pattern to cut the pieces. It’s basically two saddle shapes for the contoured ends and then a big rectangle approximately 34″ x 31 for the body. I used Nina (my serger) to construct and finish the edges at the same time, but you could do this almost as easily with a regular sewing maching and then zig-zag or overcast stitch to finish. I turned under approximately an inch and then threaded through an entire package of 1/2″ elastic.
This was a pretty quick project and probably cost around $8 all together. Not too shabby compared to store bought!
