Welcome to the Laela Jeyne Wanderlust Tour! Â This is a tour to celebrate the release of the Wanderlust pattern collection, as well as an anniversary event. Â I was invited to participate along with a group of sewing bloggers to sew one of the new pants patterns paired with a top of our choice from the pattern shop.
The Wanderlust collection consists of four patterns: the Ivy Trousers I’ll be talking about, the Girls’ Wren Skinny Jeans, Men’s Reed Trousers, and Women’s Willow Pleated Trousers. Â A little something for everyone in the family, right?
I chose to make the Ivy Trousers and the Sydney Slouchy Raglan. Â The Ivy Trousers are a classic chino trousers with a relaxed slim leg. They feature welt back pockets, side pockets, and 3 lengths – shorts, cropped or full length.
I made the full length, and I made length adjustments based on my 5’8″ height with a 32″ inseam compared to the pattern inseam of 29″. Â The pattern includes a knee line so I compared my crotch to knee with the pattern and added 2″ at the knee and the last inch at the hem. Â See how nicely my length hits? Â That little break at the top of my foot is exactly what I was going for.
I only added one welt pocket. Â I didn’t have time to make a muslin for these pants, instead relying on flat pattern measurements and fitting as I went. Â Had I made a muslin I would have adjusted the placement and angle of the welt pocket. Â Marisa said she’s adding a tutorial for a loop and button to help the pocket stay nicely closed. Â I used a coordinating lighter weight fabric for my pocket bag, and this gap wouldn’t be as obvious if I had used the same twill as my pants.
I didn’t get great photos of my slash pockets. Â I made a little facing of the twill and the rest of the pocket is the coordinating floral lawn. Â The facing kept the pocket from becoming bulky while not showing the bag fabric. Â You’ll notice this kind of pocket on many of your store bought pants.
My zipper fly turned out quite nicely if I do say myself! Â The front rise needs to be shortened to fit my body better. Â I have a tipped pelvis and prefer my pants to tilt forward to match this angle. Â Again, I would have made this change if I’d muslined first (#thisiswhywemuslin). Â I can take the waistband off and angle it lower, but I know myself and I need to take a breather before I tackle that task. Â They’re quite comfortable as is, but they want to push down and buckle at the bottom of the zipper.
I made the Sydney Slouchy Raglan using a lightweight sweater knit from Sincerely Rylee.  The Sydney Slouchy Raglan has a swing or regular slouchy silhouette, relaxed or slouchy sleeve, v-neck or off shoulder styles, and a hooded cowl.  This is the regular slouchy silhouette with the slouchy sleeve and off the shoulder neckline.
The Wanderlust Collection patterns are on sale for $5 through February 3rd – no code needed. Â In addition to the collection, Laela Jeyne is celebrating their anniversary with every clothing pattern for $5 or less and every swimsuit pattern for $6. Â This is a great time to stock up on some great patterns. Â I’ve made and reviewed the Women’s Taylor Leggings and the Scarlett Moto Skinnies.
Be sure to check out the other stops along the tour.
