School is (finally) back in session!! Â While I love summer and we had lots of fun swimming at our community pool, going to movies under the stars, museums, visits into the city and more I’m ready to be back to a weekday routine around here.
First I feel like I should share the quick snap I took on the last day of school in June and never shared. Â That’s my silly girls! Â Here’s a comparison from the first day shot:
First let’s talk a bit about Hadley and what she’s been up to.
Over the last few weeks she’s taken her early rising habit to the next level and dressing herself. Â She carefully chooses the day’s outfit – often with zero regard for the weather which results in lots of leggings and dresses even during the heatwave. Â Don’t worry, I talked her into swapping for shorts or a different outfit when that happened.
Yogurt is still a constant favorite but I felt I needed to call out her love of pancakes as well. Â She can put away half a dozen or more regular sized pancakes with no problem.
If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen the drama around her losing her first tooth. Â She and Arden were playing tug of war with a crocheted blanket and Hadley was using her teeth. Â Hadley tugged, Arden tugged back, they both tugged some more and then Hadley’s tooth was pulled loose and bleeding. Â She walked into the bathroom and plucked it out. Â We had an emergency visit to the dentist who said she was lucky and aside from breaking a small amount of the jaw bone right in front of the tooth she should be fine.
A favorite game the girls play together is superheroes; which I thoroughly encourage. Â Hadley’s superpower is “bubbles”, but I don’t fully understand how they work. Â All I know is they’re a good thing and she wins over all the bad guys.
Preschool is afternoon this year, which means I have to drive to pick up Arden and then dash over to the other school to get Hadley. Â I’m not a fan of this timing, but it is what it is.
A cute little side by side for Hadley. Â Sorry about the scale and placement being off. Â I didn’t remember that I had the girls on the first step last year. Â She is a lot taller than a year ago, but I don’t think she grew like four inches as this makes it appear.
Arden has been busy this summer too!  She participated in the summer enrichment program like last year, and also took swimming lessons.  The lessons along with playtime in the pool and a little work with Mom & Dad has resulted in her achieving independent swimming.
Career aspirations have shifted a bit from 100% veterinarian to art teacher. Â She’s always had an interest and talent in art, so who knows?
We’ve been reading Harry Potter to her and are almost at the end of the Deathly Hallows. Â After each book is read we check the movie out from the library and have a little viewing party. Â I just learned that a nearby town transforms into Hogsmeade for a weekend in October, so we’re planning to visit and experience that.
She lost her two front teeth what seems like ages ago, but the adult teeth are taking their time coming in. Â I think this stage is fun so I don’t mind – plus it’s really interesting and funny to watch her eat corn on the cob!
And she still loves pink. Â If I want to guarantee that she’ll wear something, I merely have to be sure it has some pink in it. Â Though she’s perfectly happy to wear navy, mint, coral and other colors as well.
Arden’s comparison with last year. Â Again with the misleading comparison, sorry. Â You’ll note that the Brook Blossom Skirt blogged here made a reappearance, just styled with leggings underneath since she likes to hang upside down on the monkey bars at recess. Â And she still skips everywhere.
Do you take “first day” photos? Â How’d they turn out?
