I am doll eyes, doll mouth, doll legs… Oh, not everyone instantly thinks of Hole singer Courtney Love’s lyrics when they see a pile of doll parts laying about? Think I might have just given away my age there.
This is what I’ve been doing for the last while.
Surrounded by tiny arms and legs. I thought it was funny the way they resembled a bouquet of flowers when I put them in the metal bucket to prevent them from rolling off my work table.
Since these dolls are destined to (hopefully) become loved by 15 little ballerinas they naturally had to have little ballet shoes and pink “tights”. I’m glad they turned out so sweet because they really introduced a level of complexity to a simple doll.
This is the stage during which they take on a less than stellar appearance. I start second-guessing whether I need to add something to the hair – ponytails or a bun?
But happily, add a little stuffing and they take on a different personality. Now on to the faces. I find it easier to embroider while they’re three dimensional. I was hoping the fabric markers would work for the eyes, but no such luck. The dolls I made for Arden and Hadley had sleeping eyes, but these dance student dollies need to have their eyes open to match their little teachers’ eyes. Wish me luck!
oh, what a fun project! adorable ballerina shoes 🙂
