The Covert Robin Gift Exchange

This is the first time I’ve participated in The Covert Robin exchange hosted by Imagine Gnats.  I am so happy I did though, it’s been a lot of fun!  Blog stalking to learn about my “target”, trying to figure out what would appeal to her and what colors she’d like…  Since my recipient has no clue this is for her and very likely does not read my blog, I can share my gift even though I’m mailing it today.

The difficult part of this was there was a guideline for the gift to be approximate retail value between $20 and $30.  I would have gone crazy adding more things, but I figured I’d reached that value with a divided basket, a journal and bandolier, and I added in the fabric scraps from the basket thinking she’ll be able to make something coordinating since she sews.

I purchased the divided basket pattern from Noodlehead (love it!!  I’m absolutely making TONS of these!). I started with the floral home decor fabric and was happy to find the other coordinating fabrics after first thinking I was going to come up empty-handed.  She seems to like a lot of blues and greens and I noticed at least one orange top in the mix so I hope these colors appeal to her.  I love the navy scissors print!

My partner is a college student so I thought this book bandolier would come in handy.  It closes with a wide strip of hook and loop tape so it should fit a wide range of journals or notebooks and has spots for about 15 pens or pencils.  I think my husband might hit me up to make one of these for him if he happens to see this post – perhaps in a slightly more masculine fabric though!

I got so wrapped up making this for my partner that I’ve nearly forgotten I’ve got my own covert robin sending something – I love getting goodies in the mail!

I read through this with a ‘please let it be me’ and then saw college student 🙁 I can’t wait for my covert robin gift to come through, if it’s half as beautiful as what you’ve sewn I’ll be chuffed to bits!

Oh Jenn — this is beautiful, I was hoping you might be send it to me as I have not received my item yet but then you say she’s a student so that puts me out. I know she should love it because it has so many uses.
