We crate our dogs,
Laser and
Sophie, at night and Sophie’s bed has gone from bad to horrible. In my opinion, dog beds for large breeds usually fall into one of two categories – 1. cheaply made, or 2. incredibly expensive, So when Dave said he was going to get a new bed for Sophie, I told him to let me take a stab at it from stuff we have around the house.
I still have a boatload of the floral decor-weight fabric from IKEA, so I used that for the cover. I measured her crate – 26″ X 39″ and cut the fabric a couple of inches larger.
Dave had three nasty sofa cushions from a freebie sofa that he used to have in the sunroom (slipcovered, thank goodness!) before we were married. They’ve been in the basement for a few years being slept on by the cats.
I ripped the zipper from one of them and put it in the end of my cover. I sewed a 3″ box seam in the corners to allow for the thickness of the cushions.
Luckily, the cushion stuffing was enclosed in a bag, so I stuffed two of them into the cover and they’ll pop right out when we need to wash the outside.
I think I have a satisfied customer – and it was practically free!
Had any good free (or nearly) projects lately?
