It’s beginning to look like fall around here in the mitten state. We have two apple trees in our yard, and this is the first year we’ve harvested the apples. Normally it’s just a free-for-all for the squirrels and our dogs. We think the dogs have a conspiracy with the squirrels as they will pull the apples from the tree, take one or two bites and then drop them where the dogs can get them. Laser put on 10 pounds this apple season because they were so prolific. Arden is helping Daddy make homemade apple butter – makes the house smell super delicious while it’s cooking!
We took a trip to a local farm to get pumpkins. This ended up being a two-day adventure as the first day we got there so late after Arden’s nap that all the activities were closed. So we picked out a couple of pumpkins and then took the whole family out for sushi dinner.
Arden is such a good eater of foods you wouldn’t think of as preschooler foods – she loves edamame and will try our nigiri rolls (only the cooked ones). We also got the “trainer” chopsticks and she did a great job picking up her yaki dori – chicken on skewers.
So, back to the farm – they have an animal petting area with rabbits, goats, miniature horses, donkeys, and llama. In the goat area, there’s this neat ramp system where you can buy food for the goats and then crank it up to the top platform for the goats to climb up and eat.
Arden and I went on a tractor hay ride through the fields. We got to stop and pick out gourds for each of us…
And an ear of indian corn each.
Then we went on the cow tractor train ride through the same fields. I was surprised to be invited to ride as well – I was a bit cramped in the cow made from a plastic barrel, but it was fun. There’s also a horse carriage ride you can see following in the background.
Arden and Daddy went through the little hay maze – she found her way through really quickly!
And this is what Hadley did for the entire time – she really likes being snuggled up in her carseat.
I’ve got Arden’s Halloween costume all finished and will be sharing pictures as soon as I can get her in it during daylight hours. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out – more of an adaptation than anything I sewed myself. Here’s a hint – she asked to be a character from her favorite animated movie.
Does anybody want the apple butter recipe? It’s Dave’s recipe that my Mom gave us, and it’s super yummy!
