The nursery for Baby #2 is pretty small, and on top of that, needs to house the futon as guest accomodation. Due to these constraints, the big apholstered rocker we got for Arden’s room won’t fit.
Enter Craig’s list: a quirky rocker with a much smaller profile for $15.
It’s got some gouges and one of the arms is just a touch wiggly (even after gluing and re-tightening the screws), but the caning is in perfect condition and it’s really darn comfortable for an unpadded rocker.
Some light sanding, and a couple of coats of my best friend in a spray can and now we have…
A vision of loveliness in aqua!
My only quandary now is whether I want to leave it as is, or do a little light sanding on the edges to distress it a bit. I love that look, but nothing else in the room is “shabby”, so I wonder if it will look a little out of place. Nice thing is that I don’t have to decide right now. I can always do it later if I change my mind.
I have a big ol’ black & white toile seat cushion that I tried on it, but it’s actually more comfortable without it. Now I’m thinking of making a little pillow as a headrest, but that will be a bit further down on the list.

Gorgeous update!! That colour is awesome!
Hi, I picked up a rocker like that a few weeks ago and it has an ottoman that matches. I had never seen the style before but as soon as my mom saw it she told me its a Bentwood Rocker. You can google it and get info. Love the look! I plan to make mine into a nursery rocker as well for my brothers soon to be baby boy 🙂
Great color choice! It looks great!
I love this redo! I have such a rocker in my brother’s barn/building, it was a gift from my parents for my nursing school graduation. I have never thought about painting it, now I will have to give it some thought. Certainly a way to bring it into this century! 🙂
