Day #4 – Getting Organized Challenge

Today’s A Bowl Full of Lemons’ 21 Day Organization Challenge was to tackle our linen closets.  Our house was built in 1918, so we do have some of the cute little built-ins common to the era – one of which is our linen closet.  It has a cupboard with two shelves and three drawers below.

When I saw that this was today’s challenge, I actually thought I was getting off easy since I do a pretty good job of keeping all my sheets folded together as a set by size – see the top right photo in the collage.  But, the cupboard and the other drawers were a bit out of control.

I purged probably four sets of sheets to be donated, threw away a gross old pillow and some other random stuff.  The middle drawer was full of a bunch of things that should have been in the basement – original Nintendo accessory pack, anyone?  It’s now going to be a little “blast from the past” for Dave and I.  Staying in there are my Camp Fire sash & patches and my day camp hats.  For Dave – his diplomas (can you believe he has his PhD degree in a box in a drawer?  Really?) and some childhood art and stuff.  More stuff will get gathered from various places around the house and put in here.

Don’t you love the hand-embroidered and crocheted pillowcases and doilies my Grannie made?  I had a few before and received several more after her death.  I also have a beautiful piece of handmade bobbin lace from Belgium in the blue paper bag that I keep pulling out and looking at and then putting it back because I don’t really know what to do with it.  I’m not a lace on top of the dresser kind of girl, and it seems sort of sacrilegious to craft with it – ya know?  Any ideas?
